Finn Harps 0 – 2 Drogheda

Drogheda made the trip to the northwest to play a Harps team who were on the back of a positive result against Bohemians in the previous round.

The first half seen very few chances from either team. The best chance came to Chloe Deeney after 35 minutes who intercepted a defensive pass and found herself in a good position. However, she was unlucky and shot just past the post.

Harps forward Caitlin Doherty found herself in a good position on the hour mark, however her shot flashed just across goal with the keeper beaten.

On 65 minutes, a Drogheda cross from the left was not cleared by the home defence and Drogheda made no mistake from 10 yards. Their 2nd goal came 10 minutes later when the Drogheda centre forward showed some individual excellence on the edge of the box to beat the Harps defenders and fire past Doherty in the home goal.

Harps WU19 earned a value point to maintain their great start to the season.

Finn Harps WU19 and Shelbourne FC WU19s shared the points in a thrilling game at Ballyare on Sunday afternoon which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The first half was played at a very high intensity with both teams coming close to scoring on a few occasions with both defences coming out on top.  Centre backs Darcey Kelly and Erika Gallagher and full backs Emily Irwin and Lorinne Greene impressed for Harps.

Orlaith Doherty with a super volley and Eva Blaney with a shot from the edge of the box came closest for Harps.  Heidi Gill and Codie Walsh were influential in midfield.

Shelbourne came close after a glancing header went just past Harps keeper Leah McLoughlin’s post from a corner and a great tackle from Erika Gallagher at the end of the half prevented a goal.  After an excellent display of football from both teams the first half ended 0-0.

The Second half started much the same as the first half as Harps pushed forward at every opportunity with Maryanne Ward and Aislinn Coll unlucky not to score early on in the second half.

It was Shelbourne who took the lead in the 65th minute when a great delivery from a free kick was met with an excellent header by striker Hannah O’Brien which looped over the Harps GK into the top corner.

The goal didn’t affect the home side and they kept pushing forward and were rewarded with a penalty in the 73rd minute when the superb Orlaith Doherty was brought down inside the box.  Orlaith could only watch in frustration as her effort came back off the inside of the post.

The game looked like it was heading for a defeat for Harps as Shelbourne looked to run down the clock but Harps had other ideas and kept pushing forward for an equaliser.

Deep into time added on Orlaith Doherty showed great desire and earned her team a corner after a great move involving Ella McHugh and Roisin Lynch which was delivered into the box by Caitlin Doherty.

It was well defended but Darcey Kelly had the presence of mind to lay the ball back to Olivia Maxwell who fired an absolute rocket from 25 yards into the bottom corner giving the Shelbourne GK no chance.

Shelbourne had time for one last attack but Harps keeper Claire Diver was quick off her line to deny O’Brien an opportunity.  Both teams had to settle for a point in what was a very entertaining game played in excellent conditions.

International Appearances for Oisin Cooney and Conor Walsh

Ireland MU17s v Croatia

Oisin Cooney played the full 90 minutes as the Ireland MU17s played Croatia on Tuesday.  The Harps netminder had sat out the previous two games in which Ireland lost to Germany and Portugal.  He came in for the final game in Elite Round qualifiers and once again the quality of opposition for the Boys in Green was just too much as the Croats notched a 5-0 win.

Conor Walsh played the whole game for the Ireland MU19s as they took on Slovakia in a friendly.  It was a frustrating 1-0 defeat at the MOL Academy, Dunajská Streda,as preparations began for next season’s Under-19 EURO qualifiers.

As always we are immensely proud when Harps players represent Ireland so well done Conor and Oisin.
