Preview: Finn Harps v Athlone Town

Finn Harps will look to secure their first home win of the season tomorrow night as Athlone Town make the trip to Finn Park. Kick-off is 7.45pm and the game is live on LOITV.

The sides last met in the penultimate round of fixtures of the 2023 season, where a Ryan Flood hat-trick helped the Harps on their way to a 4-1 victory.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Harps boss Darren Murphy said: “Our games against Athlone last year were certainly very exciting and always had a lot of goals in them. They were a team we found difficult to compete with on both occasions in Athlone and the first time we met at Finn Park. We were second best in those games but thankfully we were able to get the monkey off our back in the final game of the season when we had a good win.

Athlone have started the season very well having scored 6 goals in 2 games they are obviously playing front foot attacking football. In their two games they have been 3-1 up and 3-0 up. They saw the Wexford game out quite comfortably; in the Cobh game they were pegged back to 3 each. So, both their games have been exciting, I’m hoping for a very entertaining game again for the Finn Park Faithful.

On the home crowd- it was a magnificent achievement by everyone at the football club to have 2000 people at our first home game last week. It’s always great to see people come out to see their home club, thank you to everyone who attended on a miserable night. I hope the fans went away happy with the commitment and effort of the players. All I have asked of the players is to continue to show that commitment and show that effort and to leave everything they have out on the pitch.”

Injured: Aaron McLaughlin, Ryan Rainey, Kevin Jordan
