FINN HARPS V DROGHEDA WU17 WNL PREVIEW

We look forward to our second home game of the season when we host Drogheda at the Letterkenny Community Centre on Saturday 23/03/24 (3.30 KO). Training has continued to go very well since the season began with great attendance and attitude shown by each player. This has created a great atmosphere within the group, with competition for places very high amongst this talented squad of players.

The squad has settled and gelled well with 10 of the 18-player panel being new to the demands of National League this season. Additionally, all of them have busy school schedules; with some in TY and some in Junior Cert territory, we can be proud of the work they have done to date.

What has been most pleasing is that our two games have been totally different contests yet we have shown the mentality to dig in, get results and battle for each other when it’s needed. A really physical and hard-working display against Bohemians on St Patrick’s weekend has been the perfect preparation for the next run of fixtures. Sometimes when subs are introduced it can be hard to get to the speed or quality of the game, but we were delighted with the whole group against Bohs because every player in the squad of 18 contributed excellently and when a player was introduced it perfectly complimented the players on the pitch to ensure we got what we deserved. A point in Dublin is fantastic, probably not what anyone in the league would have expected but we knew we were prepared!

With Drogheda being a side we know well from playing them 5 times last season, we know this weekend will be another tough encounter, but we look forward to every game between now and the summer break. Niamh Ryan is on a school trip, Sienna Bradley is a doubt, but we hope to welcome Eabha Daly back to the squad for the Drogheda game as she returns from injury. Best wishes to Sienna who picked up a foot injury in the Bohs game. Thanks to our supporters in recent games in Letterkenny and Dublin. We encourage anyone interested in Finn Harps or women’s football, to come out and watch the WU17 & 19 teams who represent the North West so well.
