Finn Harps Down Syndrome Futsal Squad Miss Out on Third Trophy Following Shootout Loss

The Harps Down Syndrome team once again represented the club with distinction at the latest Cairdeas Cup which took place at the  weekend at the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown.  The Harps squad had triumphed in both the tournaments that have taken place.

The Harps team stormed through the group stage winning all five games.  They opened the day beating rivals Derry City 5-0.  Next they  took on Cork City and won a tight game 2-1.  Shelbourne were next and this time Harps 1-0.  Bohemians followed with eh Harps team winning 2-0.

The final group game against Drogheda United was a special one as for the first time three female players, Meg Carr, Leanne Kelly and Anna Hennessy played the entire game and all three got on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win.

Having topped the group, Harps then faced Wexford in the semi final.  Shaun McCosker scored both goals in a 2-1 victory.

The final against Dundalk was very tight with very few chances. Harps had the best of them with both Hughie Sweeney and Shaun McCosker going very close.  The game ended 0-0 and then went straight to penalties, in which Dundalk came out on top 5-4.

Once again we are immensely proud of the squad.  Well done to Dundalk and all the other teams and organisers for another brilliant festival of futsal!
