Coach Focus: Patrick McGrenaghan Women’s U17s Head Coach

1) Tell us a bit about yourself?

I work as FAI Football Camps Support Staff. I have a few years coaching both boys, girls and senior men’s teams. Completed the UEFA B with many of the other Harps coaches in 2022 and recently completed the MSc In Sports Performance Practice in ATU Donegal.

2) What attracted you to a coaching role with Harps and what do you look to bring to the role?

Paddy McDaid, Kevin and I spoke about their vision of Finn Harps women’s football. This was a very exciting opportunity to provide the players of the North West an opportunity to play national league.

3) Favourite memories of Finn Harps?

I remember heading to Finn Park to watch a friendly against Celtic!! BJ Banda scoring that goal a few years back. Great scenes.

4) How do you want to see the club and the academy develop in the coming years?

As a coach who works in the women’s academy we want to see this go from strength to strength. This is our first season and we are providing elite football in a high standard set up to the young women of Donegal and the North West. We want to keep growing this in the short term. and work towards having a senior team down the line.

5) Highlight of the year

We showed great character in our first game in Drogheda to come from behind to get a result away against Drogheda. Secondly, seeing the girl’s progress while playing against some of the best players and teams in the country in Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers and Peamount in what was a very tough first phase. Looking forward to phase two now starting this weekend after making a couple of additions to an already strong group.
