Academy Updates As Kyra Gavigan Receives Ireland Call Up

Kyra Gavigan Ireland Call Up
Everyone at Finn Harps is delighted to see WU17 player Kyra Gavigan included in this weekends Irish U15 Schools team to play N. Ireland on Sunday. Kyra is doing really well in her debut season in the LOI Academy Women’s U17 having previously played for Finn Valley Ladies.

Also involved in the International set up as assistant coaches is our Head of Women’s football Paddy McDaid, and Kaneshia McKinney, who has played and coached with Bonagee United. We wish them all the best of luck!

WU19

A dominant display from the Harps girls away from home on Sunday and against a very well organised Mayo side that made Harps work hard for their victory.

It was Aoibheann Mullan, in only her second competitive match for Harps, who opened the scoring for Harps on the 12th minute when a great pass from Niamh Ryan found Aoibheann and she showed great composure to finish from 18 yards out.

Harps will feel they should have scored a few more before halftime with Orlaith Doherty, Maryann Ward and Niamh Ryan having good opportunities.

The second half was much the same with Harps dominating possession and got their second on 59th minutes when a misplaced pass from the mayo Goalkeeper fell to Fia Coyle who made no mistake with the finish from 20 yards. Harps want 3 up on 73rd minute when a great pass from Ella McHugh found Aoibheann Mullan in space and again Aoibheann showed great composure to score into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

A great performance from all the Harps players with Maryann ward Eva Blaney and Codie Walsh picking up POTM.

WU17

The North-West derby ended in a draw on Saturday at the excellent playing facility in Corry Park, home of Illistrin FC.  Both teams played good football in the opening exchanges with Rihanna Doherty dealing well with a couple of long-range efforts from Sligo.  Sophie Doherty’s dangerous inswinging corner was well attacked by Hannah Goudie but it was deflected wide.  Sarah Mulvaney-Kelly was making great runs through the channel for Harps.  Cliodhna Kelly almost broke the deadlock twice in the space of a few minutes when firstly the ball broke to her in the box but her shot was well saved and then she reacted quickest to Erin Nelis’s shot that was parried by the keeper.

Megan Gallagher and Scarlett Keys were solid in the heart of the Harps defence.  Wingers Sienna Bradley and Claragh Gallagher worked tirelessly in the first half and Aoibhin Cassidy and Sophie McLaughlin finished the half strongly with McLaughlin scoring a great goal from the edge of the box with a great strike in the 40th minute.

In the second half Sarah McGuinness, Alannah Curran, and Rachel Harron combined well in midfield and Fia Coyle and Sorcha Keys were strong in the defensive third as Sligo went in search of an equaliser.  In the 71st minute they drew level with a well worked goal and soon after hit the post.  Chloe Deeney did well to create a chance for Harps near the end but the Sligo keeper saved well from her.

Hannah Goudie, Erin Nelis and Scarlett Keys claimed the Joint POTM award with fine displays.

MU17
Our MU17s were at Letterkenny Community Centre yesterday as they earned a draw against St Patrick’s Athletic. The visitors left Donegal frustrated as they couldn’t break down a resilient Harps side. Both Guilherme Tavares and Gavin Friel impressed for Harps while Ryan McConnell kept a clean sheet.

MU15

It was a tough day in Dublin on Saturday for our MU15s side as they lost out to St. Patrick’s Athletic at TU Blanchardstown. Lee McDaid got Harps’ only goal while Odhran McHugh led the line for Harps earning the POTM for an excellent performance.

MU20

Harps MU20s also travelled to Dublin to face Saint Patrick’s Athletic and lost out by three goals to one.  Pat’s lead by 2 following goals in the 66th and 77th minutes before Conor Gibson got Harps back into the game with ten minutes to go.  The hosts made sure of the points with a third goal right at the death.

MU14

Last weekend the MU14s were at Leckview on Sunday as they came up against a physical St. Patrick’s Athletic. The visitors took home the win in a tightly fought affair. Ethan Buchanan scored Harps’ only goal while Charlie Bonner claimed the POTM for a superb display for Harps.
