Finn Harps WU19 suffer only their second defeat of the season as they played their penultimate game in Phase 1 of the league.

Played in excellent conditions in Corry Park, Illistrin, the visitors took the lead in the 14th minute after the initial cross was well defended by Eva Blaney at the back post despite close attention from Phipps and Kelly returned a fine cross to Phipps who produced a fine side foot volley to the net.

Harps had a great opportunity to equalise in the 24th minute when Erika Gallagher played a great through ball over the top to Aislinn Coll who was unceremoniously tripped by a Bohemians defender before she got her shot away with the keeper off her line.  Coll’s resulting free kick was saved by Brennan.  Lorrine Greene was defending well at right back and saw a lot of action on her side of the pitch. Darcey Kelly had a half chance from a header but the ball went wide after a great cross from Codie Walsh.

Heidi Gill, Ella McHugh and Codie Walsh were starting to dominate the midfield area before halftime as Harps were growing into the game.  Wingers Caitlin Doherty and Maryanne Ward were getting more joy too as Harps finished the half strongly.

Harps lifted the intensity in the second half but were dealt a sucker punch in the 51st minute when a dangerous cross into the box from Phipps resulted in an own goal.  Soon after Harps were adjudged to have handled in their box and Kelly’s penalty was almost saved by Leah McLoughlin who had a fine game.

On a positive note Freya Canning made a return to the side and there were impressive debuts at U19 level for U17 players Eabha Daly and Kaylagh Sweeney.  With Orlaith Doherty, Claire Diver, Bridgin Hynes and Roisin Lynch out injured the Harps team put in a great performance against an excellent Bohemians FC team.  They conclude Phase One of the league away to Shelbourne FC on Sunday having secured third place in a very tough group.  Heidi Gill and Darcey Kelly were the POTM.
