MU14
Our MU14s played out a tense 2-2 draw with Shelbourne on Sunday in Killygordon. Two well taken early goals from Ethan Buchanan and POTM Oscar Doherty had Harps in front, though a late fightback from the visitors saw them claim a draw. Charlie Bonner captained the side.
MU15
Our MU15s drew with Shelbourne on Saturday in a tightly fought contest at the National Indoor Arena. Odhran McHugh popped up with both Harps goals while Sean Gallagher & Orran Kee played pivotal roles in the game sharing the POTM.
MU17
Our MU17s had a very difficult day at Letterkenny Community Centre as Shelbourne scored a comprehensive win.
MU20
Harps MU20s travelled to the FAI National Train Centre to take on their Shelbourne counterparts. Goals in either half secured maximum points for the hosts.
WU17
Galway United WU17 2-0 Finn Harps WU17
This National League WU17 game was played in Athenry on a lovely day for football. Harps started brightly with winger Sophie McLaughlin productive early on. Full backs Erin Nelis and Sophie Doherty were defending very well and goalkeeper Rihanna Doherty had to be alert as she saved well from a one on one situation just inside the box. Centre Backs Fia Coyle and Scarlette Keys were excellent in the first half as they dealt with Galway’s attacks.
The best chance of the half fell to Harps striker Sarah Mulvaney Kelly after she was played through by Cliodhna Kelly. She took the shot early but the Galway keeper was equal to her effort.
Galway continued to be aggressive in the tackle and Harps picked up injuries to Scarlett Keys and Erin Nelis. Nelis had a snapshot in the box but was injured in the process. Kyra Gavigan and Sarah McGuinness were doing great in the midfield area as Harps had some brilliant passages of play. The score was 0-0 at halftime.
Galway started the 2nd half well but the Harps defense were comfortable in dealing with their attacks, including a few corners. Hannah Goudie, Sorcha Keys, Claragh Gallagher, Aoibhin Cassidy and Rachel Harron were growing more and more into the game as there was very little between the teams. The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute when Harps gave up possession in their own third and Rihanna Doherty could do little to keep the looping shot out of the net.
Harps finished the game very strongly and had a couple of half chances to equalise. Sarah Mulvaney Kelly was unlucky to see her deflected shot end up on the wrong side of the post. Soon after Sophie McLaughlin made a great run before being taken down but the ball fell to Sarah Mulvaney Kelly and her shot forced a corner. Galway scored a 95th minute goal to make it 2 nil past young Caoimhe McLaughlin as Harps pushed for an equaliser. A fine performance from Finn Harps and the girls played some great football throughout the contest. Rihanna Doherty, Cliodhna Kelly and Fia Coyle shared the POTM award.
WU19
Our WU19s claimed all three points on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Galway United at Corry Park.
Orlaith Doherty opened the scoring after 9 minutes, but Galway quickly equalised. Harps responded well, with Olivia Maxwell restoring the lead in the 20th minute. Orlaith struck again before halftime after a great pass from Claire Diver. The fourth goal came from Aoibheann Mullan, set up by smart play from Codie Walsh. Galway added a late second in the 90th minute, but it was too little, too late.
Players of the Match: Codie Walsh and Maryanne Ward dominated the midfield, Orlaith Doherty impressed with two goals and tireless effort.
