WU19
Our WU19 team secured another 3 points this Sunday at Corry Park with an all round great team performance securing a 2-1 win.
The first half was tightly contested, but Harps broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Orlaith Doherty was expertly played through by Eva Blaney, finishing confidently. Orlaith had another chance soon after but narrowly missed the target.
Goalkeeper Claire Diver made several crucial saves to ensure Harps maintained their lead going into halftime.
The second half saw Harps come out strong, applying pressure to the St Pat’s defense, with Maryanne Ward and Niamh Ryan proving constant threats.
Harps’ second goal arrived from a brilliant delivery by Sophie Canning into the box. Ella McHugh did well to shield the ball from the defender, and it fell perfectly to Sienna Bradley, who calmly slotted it into the bottom corner.
St Pat’s responded with increased pressure, but Harps’ defense stood firm. It wasn’t until added time that a well-executed shot from Yates gave the visitors their only goal.
The game ended 2-1 in favor of our girls, with Erika Gallagher and Darcey Kelly earning Player of the Match for their outstanding performances.
WU17
Finn Harps WU17 0-0 Galway United WU17
Finn Harps WU17 entertained Galway United WU17 at a sun-kissed Corry Park, home of Illistrin FC on Saturday. The pitch and facilities are a credit to the club. Despite the 0-0 scoreline it was a very entertaining game from the first minute until the last minute. Harps started very well with Sophie McLaughlin being played through on goal by her strike partner Sarah Mulvaney Kelly and she just dragged her shot past the far post. A few minutes later Sarah McGuinness played a superb ball in behind the Galway United defense for McLaughlin but her well struck shot just cleared the bar.
The visitors were starting to test the Harps rear guard as the half progressed, especially in the wide areas but Sorcha Keys and Sophie Doherty defended really well. Hannah Goudie, Kyra Gavigan and Cliodhna Kelly were working tirelessly in midfield as the game flowed from end to end. Galway’s best chance came from a back pass that was intercepted but Harps keeper Rihanna Doherty was fast off her line to make a great save.
Galway started the 2nd half brightly but Chloe Deeney, Sienna Bradley and Rachel Harron combined well to really test the Galway defense. Fia Coyle and Erin Nelis brought fresh energy to the Harps team in the final quarter. Claragh Gallagher and Alannah Curran combined well up the right and Sarah Mulvaney Kelly did really well to get in behind the Galway defense in the last few minutes but her early strike just went past the post.
Scarlett Keys and Megan Gallagher put in great performances in the heart of the Harps defense and Gallagher made a brilliant block after a corner fell to the Galway attacker. The game ended scoreless but credit to both teams for some excellent football throughout the match. Referee Vincent McLaughlin had a fine game. Kyra Gavigan, Megan Gallagher and Sophie Doherty shared the POTM award and goal keeper Rihanna Doherty had an excellent game and deserved her clean sheet. Up next is an away trip to Longford for Harps.
