WU17
In very hot conditions in Milebush Park our WU17 team came away with a hard-fought victory over Mayo.
Harps took the lead on 15 minutes after a spell of good play. The ball was switched to Sienna Bradley on the left who fed Caitlin Doherty down the left channel. She beat the last defender but was brought down. Bradley finished the penalty calmly to give Harps the vital goal. Mayo were constantly a threat with the ball down the line but the Harps defence were equal to their threat.
Harps had a few chances in the second half to extend their lead however failed to make the most of their openings. Nonetheless it was Chloe Deeney and Sophie McLaughlin who seemed most likely to create an opening. As the game approached the added time Mayo had a dangerous spell forcing several corners in a row. Harps stood firm to see the game out and claim vital points on the road.
Rhianna Doherty, Kaylagh Sweeney, Fia Coyle & Scarlett Keys were equal to everything that was thrown at them and they shared the POTM award this week. Longford at home is next for this squad.
