We Know what We Have To Do – Shane Bell

Harps are home again in the second last game of the season as they welcome Wexford to Ballybofey in a crucial game for Harps. This game was due to have been played on the 4th of October but was postponed due to Wexford being in the FAI cup semi final against Drogheda. This is the first Harps home game since the 13th of September game against Longford. A month has passed since then and well that has been the story of Harps season this season really. For the first half of the season the majority of games were home between doing favours for other clubs such as Cork and Cobh but not getting favours in return. For a club and fans it’s very frustrating having to go long periods of the season with no home games and it makes it so challenging because you are not making any income yet you still have to pay the players, staff and the other bills. It’s very hard to keep going but it’s a credit to the club and its volunteers.

On Friday night Wexford secured their play off spot with 2 games to go, so that leaves Harps and Bray fighting it out for that final spot. Harps need to win their two remaining games at home to Wexford on Monday and then home to Treaty on Friday and hope for a favour from Cobh. The players have given everything the last few weeks. Harps are currently 6 games undefeated. A few months ago no one expected that but here we are. As they say football is a funny game. In those 6 games harps have won 3 and drew 3.

So far this season Harps have beat Wexford twice once at home 1-0 and once away 2-1 and also lost away 2-0. So it’s been mixed results but hopefully with the fact Wexford have already guaranteed there play off spot they mightn’t play their strongest team.

I’m sure Murph and his backroom team will do everything to get that last play off spot. The players will know what they have to do to get it. Hopefully on Friday night we are celebrating and have another game in Finn Park the week after. Up the Harps!
